I have to thank Susie Bubble for these images. I was so taken aback (read confronted with true love) when I saw these clothes and photos, that I had to put them up here too. Beautiful photos featuring designs from a woman called Anne-Marie Beretta who was very successful in the 80s. Not much else to find about her unfortunately, but I'm intrigued nonetheless.

I have a new-found love for this Mancunian duo, previously known (and loved) by the name "Daggers". They've since changed their look, line-up and sound (to an extent) and it works. They also have that Roxy Music-new wave thing going on and they are pretty much the poster boys of the Hedi Slimane thin-boy-in-a-band-with-nice-clothes thing.

Beautiful.

Funny I should find this when spring is coming to the north and the cold and dark is beginning to bite its way south. Still, African winters aren't so bad and my birthday being in 2 weeks time, I've come to love (or rather - become accustomed to) the season change and the colours slowly fading to oranges and burnt out browns and yellows.

“I do see the film and the album as being together, as a unified thing,” says Noah and the Whale’s chief songwriter and singer Charlie Fink about the band’s new record and accompanying film, The First Days of Spring. “But the album very much came first – it has its own internal narrative.”

As with their debut, last year’s Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down, the Londoners’ second release follows a structure. There are songs here – Blue Skies, Our Window, I Have Nothing, Slow Glass – that cry out for special attention, for love. But the journey the album takes you on, from the ominous drum tattoo and string swell on the opening title track right through to the strummed acoustic guitar, pedal-steel keening and massed voices that bring My Door is Always Open to its devastating close, is an experience quite unlike that offered by most music being made today.

Charlie began thinking of making an album that was also a film (and, as he sees it, vice versa) last year. The film, shot on a miniscule budget in a tight time-frame – a process one of the producers describes “as making a near feature-length film, for the budget of a short, in eight days” – and directed by Charlie himself, can be seen as a companion piece to the album, as a visual version of it, or as a piece of work in its own right. That decision is very much up to us, as the listener and viewer, says Charlie.

Formed in 2006, Noah and the Whale quickly gained a foothold on a London music scene variously described as anti-folk, nu-folk and folk-pop (a confusing multitude of pigeonholes) alongside like-minded souls such as Laura Marling and Emmy the Great. Both were part-time members of the band at various points, while Charlie Fink also produced Marling’s Mercury-nominated debut album, Alas I Cannot Swim. It was apparent immediately that something unorthodox and disturbing was going on in Noah and the Whale’s songs: that, beneath the surface appeal (bells, whistles, handclaps, ukuleles and singalong choruses), they were working with much darker materials. This tension, between instantly undislodgeable melodies and instrumental textures that encouraged a sunny disposition, and lyrics that looked unblinkingly at the ambiguities contained in love, in words, in life and in death, made the band’s debut album a critical and commercial success, charting in the Top 5 and being certified Gold within just four months. The band toured extensively, in the UK, in Europe and in the US, their superb live shows drawing much acclaim as the album, and earning the band a rabidly loyal fanbase in the process.

J.W. Anderson has produced his first women's collection. In an interview with Dazed Digital, the designer talks about how his men's line has always been influenced by femininity, so in this collection he sees women's wear with a masculine influence in mind, how men's clothes would fit a women. He translated his statement tartan wool jacket quite nicely into a snug girl's version. Luxe, relaxed and given a dash of gothic romanticism in a 90s, but very now sort of way.

Breathtaking shoot for Vogue Hommes Japan by Hedi Slimane.

Hedi's work is always so stark, but it has so much emotion in it. Traces of Americana pop up in this shoot - something I'm getting rather into. Bleached denim, plaid checks, navy blue, reds, stars and stripes, leather biker jackets, college sweatshirts, Buddy Holly and a bit of early 90's grunge nostalgia thrown in for good measure.

I'm not quite certain about Alexander McQueen's collection after last season's runway hiatus and his phenomenal woman's spring 2010 collection. The digital prints are there, the great knits are there... I think it's a grower. Still, its a good progression from the paint splattered spring collection (which I love) - I could however, do without the skull motifs (seen on the shoulders of some shirts/pullovers).

In spirit of disco and all things glam rock (disco having had a comeback the last few seasons) I wanted to stick up some shots of one of my musical heroes, Marc Bolan (and to use the opportunity to boast - hee hee).

The following video (audio disabled thanks to the big hoo-ha Youtube had with the recording industry a while back) shows Top of the Pops on their Christmas 1971 special, featuring a whole range of bands/artists, including T-Rex performing "Get It On" (with Elton John on piano, even).

Anyway, point being, watch from about 2min23sec in, brunette girl in the purple sweater dancing along (she can be seen throughout the rest of the video, dancing away in her pink corduroy jeans). That's my aunt! I still can't handle how cool it is. And she was SO CLOSE TO MARC BOLAN. I die.

First thing's first. I think the name is HORRIBLE. I also think the price tag is horrible.

Beautiful pieces. Not so beautiful prices - you get the point.

The Mulleavy sisters are known for their hand made, 'falling-apart' knitwear and highly desirable and unique pieces of clothing. They have finally decide to branch out into menswear, but I do sort of think that it is a bit of a cop out because they've merely made 'boy-versions' of their woman's pieces without giving any extra thought to the aesthetic of their men's line.

Nevertheless, these sweaters (the first pieces to be released) are available in 4 different colours/combinations and are hand made. They are a mixture of mohair, alpaca, nylon, wool, silk, metal polyester, rayon and viscose. That's all swell. But they cost $2,700 (R20 000!).

I know. I can't justify it myself (and I've been known to lust after Margiela pieces and what not - but REALLY, a cardigan that is made up mostly of holes and loosely knitted threads?). Then there's the name. Oh, that name. "Brodarte". 'Nuff said.

Nice. But not nice enough.

A very disappointing Spring collection followed what is the second from the house of Martin Margiela, since his departure from the brand (http://www.fashionweekdaily.com/news/fullstory.sps?inewsid=6640822). Random and pretty much a cheap copy of previous collections. This made me very upset, considering MMM is possibly one of my very favourite design houses.

On the flipside, however, these collections make my heart sing. Viktor & Rolf's spectacle is my favourite show of the season thus far.
