Brodarte.

First thing's first. I think the name is HORRIBLE. I also think the price tag is horrible.

Beautiful pieces. Not so beautiful prices - you get the point.

The Mulleavy sisters are known for their hand made, 'falling-apart' knitwear and highly desirable and unique pieces of clothing. They have finally decide to branch out into menswear, but I do sort of think that it is a bit of a cop out because they've merely made 'boy-versions' of their woman's pieces without giving any extra thought to the aesthetic of their men's line.

Nevertheless, these sweaters (the first pieces to be released) are available in 4 different colours/combinations and are hand made. They are a mixture of mohair, alpaca, nylon, wool, silk, metal polyester, rayon and viscose. That's all swell. But they cost $2,700 (R20 000!).

I know. I can't justify it myself (and I've been known to lust after Margiela pieces and what not - but REALLY, a cardigan that is made up mostly of holes and loosely knitted threads?). Then there's the name. Oh, that name. "Brodarte". 'Nuff said.

Nice. But not nice enough.
Available from Opening Ceremony (which by the way IS AMAZING)

PS If you recall, their Spring 2010 show was one of my favourite's (and one of the best of the season, I'd say)

-> Rodarte Website

They're doing a low-cost line for Target in the US. Not amazed.

Anyway!

i thought i was the only one who wasn't impressed with rodarte for target - a little cheap looking, i thought (from all the pics on literally every stateside blogger....)
espec. pieces such as the yellow lace dress, which reminded me of the kind of pieces that topshop do that end up in the sales...
hmm.
that price tag is RIDIC.
