So, I had the privilege to work backstage at Arise Africa Fashion Week. Couple of weeks back now.

I helped style the finale show, 30 girls, who would be closing the awards show and the whole week.
We chose the best pieces from the week and I had double-sided tape stuck onto my entire body.

The night ended on a spectacular note, VIP treatment (at an undisclosed club - I'll never tell where!), expensive bottles of liquor that we would never buy ourselves for fear of bankruptcy, and drunk dancing. The best kind.

Great bunch of models. Je t'aime. Especially loved little Ana-Paula, Portuguese girl with her little phrase-book. She's so gorgeous and professional and such fun...she sat taping the girls' (fancy) shoes with me...out of her own! Love her.

My apologies for my absence as of late, but it is coming to the end of term at college and I have a million assignments I should be doing and some pattern-making notes I should be studying...but I'm a pro at procrastinating.

I have some photos of a lovely girl I caught in her Alexander McQueen resort '09 frock, at Arise African Fashion Week. I will post a little write-up about that too.

I will be updating from next week again, after the madness has subsided.

To tide you over, there is a great party happening at Carfax in Newtown this Saturday...a DJ/producer by the name Trevor Jackson (from British group Playgroup) will be spinning as well as a blog favourite DJ, King Of Town and a live performance from Desmond and the Tutu's. Promises to be quite fancy.

Saturday sees the return of the monthly Junk Sale, held at Deer Hunter in Greenside (135 Greenways road)
I'll be selling vintage clothing from 10am-3pm.

Then, finally, next Saturday the 11th of July sees the launch of Vice Magazine in South Africa. Hosted by my buddy's NOIR, the night will feature non-other than international super-group NEW YOUNG PONY CLUB spinning a DJ set, alongside myself (SO EXCITED!) and other NOIR resident DJs Fleischwolf & Johnny Cache.


Other live performances on the night will consist of NEXT OF KIN from Cape Town and DIRTY HERZ from Joburg.

MTV will be present to record this special evening.

The/Sweat/Shop sample sale at the night will see cost price one-off samples from Carhartt, Mooks, Pointer Shoes and RVCA clothing's 2010 ranges.

VICE MAGAZINE SOUTH AFRICA WILL BE INTRODUCED ON THE NIGHT.

Junk Sale at Deer Hunter, Greenside

Cupcakes and brownies. Saved my life, helped my hangover.

Good day. Catch the next one at the beginning of next month and thereafter every first weekend of every month, Greenways Road, Greenside (opposite Design Center, who happened to have their open day this past weekend and proceeded to blare awful radio fodder across the street at us all day, making my hangover much harder to deal with. They played a certain "Mr Jones" 4 times. REM, twice, and every Lady Gaga song, ever. Torturous.)

Trying to keep the updates as regular as I can but college is killing me. Promise I will, promise.

Thank god for Karl Lagerfeld. Chanel Cruise Collection 2010. Karen Elson. Baptiste Giabiconi. Bliss.

Resort wear is, as resort wear goes. Boaty. Beachy. Nothing too phenomenal. But what actually gets me excited is with every new Chanel collection comes a couple more men's looks. YES. Chanel menswear.


I'm not head-over-heels in love or anything, but wouldn't mind a nice new winter cardigan. Hmm.

The stuff I've seen so far isn't anything too innovative unfortunately, but there are the odd basic item that would do really nicely. Be really great for Karl, or perhaps an outside designer to update and evolve the men's line. I think Hedi Slimane would be a rather interesting choice.

Like the 'pearls-on-boys' sort of androgynous idea in this last picture, I've been known to rock a bit of a pearl necklace a few times. The lines in menswear, and masculinity in general, are being more blurred every day, especially in the fashion world, and girly items are being appropriated into menswear in all aspects. I for one think its very interesting and its a great time for menswear to really do innovative things.


Kudos to Karl for bringing Karen Elson back. Seems the trend for 'older, familiar models' in campaigns/shows will be around a while. Glad she's the Chanel face. Not too mad about Claudia Schiffer doing YSL, but hey, at least she's not Cindy. Also loving the Jerry Hall snaps which feature her writhing around on a bed with Baptiste. She really is amazing.
